Cosmetic Dentistry 101: Comparing Your Options
Veneers, bonding, whitening, Invisalign — cosmetic dentistry covers a lot of ground, and picking the right option starts with understanding what each one actually does...

“Cosmetic dentistry” isn't one treatment — it's a category that covers everything from a single whitening session to a full smile redesign. If you're not sure where to start, here's a quick map of the main options and what each one is actually built to fix.
Teeth Whitening
The simplest and least invasive option, aimed purely at lifting stains and discoloration. It doesn't change the shape or alignment of your teeth — just the color. Good first step if color is your only concern.
Composite Bonding
A tooth-colored resin sculpted directly onto the tooth to fix chips, small gaps, or minor shape irregularities in a single visit. It's less expensive and more conservative than a veneer, but also less durable long-term.
Porcelain Veneers
Thin custom shells bonded to the front of the teeth, used for more significant issues with shape, color, or spacing that whitening or bonding can't fully address. They involve more preparation than bonding but tend to last considerably longer.
Invisalign
If the concern is alignment rather than color or shape — crowding, gaps, a shifting bite — clear aligners move the teeth into position rather than covering them up.
Smile Makeover
For patients dealing with more than one issue at once, a smile makeover combines whichever of the above treatments actually apply to your case into a single coordinated plan, rather than tackling each concern separately.
