A white spot forms when the enamel just beneath the surface becomes porous — from early decay or from the demineralization that can happen around brackets during orthodontic treatment — scattering light differently than the surrounding healthy enamel. Icon treats that porous layer directly: the surface is etched, dried, and then a low-viscosity resin is infiltrated into the porous enamel, where it's light-cured and hardens in place.
