A dental emergency is stressful enough without wondering where to turn. Call us right away — we set aside time for same-day emergency visits whenever possible.
What Counts as a Dental Emergency?
If you're in significant pain, bleeding, or have a tooth that's been knocked out, chipped, or broken, call us immediately at 212-877-7475 or text 917-693-8269. Don't wait for it to get worse — the sooner we see you, the better the outcome is likely to be.
- Knocked-out tooth: Handle it by the crown (top), not the root. If possible, gently rinse it with water (no scrubbing) and try to place it back in the socket. If that's not possible, keep it in milk or between your cheek and gum, and get to us within 30 minutes if you can.
- Severe toothache: Rinse with warm water and gently floss around the tooth to remove any trapped debris. Avoid placing aspirin directly on the gum or tooth. Call us — persistent pain usually means something needs attention soon.
- Chipped or broken tooth: Save any pieces if you can find them, rinse your mouth with warm water, and apply a cold compress to reduce swelling. Call us the same day.
- Lost filling or crown: Keep the restoration if you still have it. Over-the-counter dental cement from a pharmacy can temporarily protect the tooth until your visit, but it's not a substitute for being seen.
- Object caught between teeth: Try gently removing it with floss. Never use a sharp or metal object, which can injure your gums.
- Soft-tissue injury (cheek, tongue, lip): Rinse gently with salt water and apply gentle pressure with clean gauze if there's bleeding.
If you have uncontrolled bleeding, facial swelling that's affecting your breathing or swallowing, or a jaw that may be broken, go to the nearest emergency room or call 911 right away — these situations need care beyond what a dental office can provide.
