Dentures or Implants? Getting a Second Opinion First

Choosing between dentures, an implant-supported denture, or individual implants is a major, largely permanent decision — here's why it's worth a second opinion.

Dentures or Implants? Getting a Second Opinion First

Choosing how to replace missing or failing teeth — a removable denture, an implant-supported denture, or individual implants — is one of the bigger decisions in dentistry, both financially and in terms of what it means for your remaining natural teeth. If extractions are part of the plan, that step is permanent, which makes this exactly the kind of decision worth a second opinion before you commit.

Why the Options Get Confused

These options vary enormously in cost, in how stable the result feels day to day, and in how many of your own teeth (if any) need to come out first. A traditional removable denture costs meaningfully less upfront than an implant-supported option, but the two aren't really interchangeable — they solve the problem differently, and the right choice depends on your bone health, budget, and how much stability matters to you.

When to Get a Second Opinion

It's worth getting one if you're being told all of your remaining teeth need to come out for a full denture, if implant-supported options weren't mentioned as an alternative at all, or if the cost difference between options wasn't clearly explained. This is a decision you'll live with for years — it's worth being confident in it.

What We'll Walk Through

We'll assess which of your remaining teeth are healthy enough to keep, review your bone levels for implant candidacy, and lay out the realistic options with honest cost and maintenance differences between them — not just the option that happens to be easiest to schedule. See our comparison of a bridge versus an implant for a related decision that often comes up in the same conversation.
