All-on-4 vs All-on-6 vs Snap-On Dentures: Which Is Right for You?

Full-arch tooth replacement is for patients missing most or all of their teeth. Unlike individual implants, these solutions replace an entire row of teeth using fewer implants, or, in the case of snap-on dentures, attach a removable prosthetic to a small number of implants.

All-on-4

All-on-4 uses four strategically placed implants to support a full upper or lower arch — two placed vertically in the front of the jaw and two angled in the back to maximize support and bone engagement. Benefits include fewer implants (shorter, less invasive surgery), immediate loading (temporary teeth often placed the same day), bone preservation, and a fixed prosthetic that feels and functions like natural teeth. Ideal candidates have moderate bone density, want a fixed non-removable solution, and prefer a quicker recovery with fewer implants.

All-on-6

All-on-6 uses six implants instead of four, distributing support more evenly across the arch — useful for patients with slightly weaker bone or higher bite forces. Benefits include extra stability for strong chewing, higher long-term success from more even pressure distribution, and reduced stress on any individual implant. Ideal candidates have sufficient jawbone for six implants, higher bite forces (heavy chewers or bruxism patients), and want a long-term, durable solution with minimal risk of implant overload.

Snap-On Dentures (Implant-Supported Dentures)

Snap-on dentures are removable prosthetics that attach to 2–4 dental implants via built-in attachments, offering more stability than a conventional denture while remaining removable for cleaning. Benefits include lower cost (fewer implants, simpler procedure), improved stability with less movement, easier cleaning, and a less invasive surgery. Ideal candidates have limited jawbone that may not support All-on-4/6, want a removable option for convenience, or have budget constraints but want better function than a traditional denture.

Comparing the Options

All-on-4 needs 4 implants, is fixed, moderate in cost and surgical invasiveness, and usually delivers teeth the same day. All-on-6 needs 6 implants, is fixed, has higher cost and invasiveness, but offers the highest stability. Snap-on dentures need 2–4 implants, are removable, lower cost, and less invasive, with only temporary teeth at first and moderate day-to-day stability.

Choosing Between Them

Jawbone health matters most: All-on-6 requires the most bone, All-on-4 can sometimes be angled to avoid grafting, and snap-on dentures are the least bone-dependent. Budget follows the same order, from All-on-4 (moderate) to All-on-6 (higher) to snap-on (most affordable). Desired lifestyle matters too — All-on-4/6 give a permanent, natural feel and full chewing function, while snap-on dentures are removable and easier to clean but can feel less natural. Recovery is fastest for snap-on dentures, moderate for All-on-4 (often same-day teeth), and longest for All-on-6, though it’s the most durable long-term.
