“General dentist” is a term that gets used so often it can start to feel vague. In practice, it describes the dentist responsible for your overall oral health — the person who sees you regularly, catches problems early, and either treats them directly or coordinates you to the right specialist when something needs a more focused set of hands.

Preventive Care

This is the foundation: routine exams, professional cleanings, X-rays, and oral cancer screenings, all aimed at catching small problems — a developing cavity, early gum inflammation — before they become bigger, more expensive ones.

Restorative Treatment

Knowing When to Refer

A good general dentist also knows the limits of what's best handled in-house. Root canals, for example, involve narrow, curved canal systems that are safest treated with an endodontist's specialized microscopes and daily repetition — which is why we refer those out to trusted specialists rather than trying to do everything under one roof. The same logic applies to complex oral surgery. Good general dentistry isn't about doing every procedure yourself; it's about giving patients an accurate diagnosis and the right next step.
