Get To Know Lena!

Why did you choose the Dental Hygiene Field?

Growing up, I loved arts and crafts, so I knew I wanted my career to let me work with my hands. I also love getting to know new people, so being a dental hygienist lets me combine my two passions. As a dental hygienist, I love that I get to work with my hands and teach people how to maintain their healthy smiles – and what’s better than doing something you love all while chatting about what’s going on in our lives!

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

I really love what I do. The most rewarding experience for me, as well as my patients, is to see tangible results – to see someone’s brightest smile when a stain is gone after polishing, or seeing someone a week after receiving gum treatment with no swelling or bleeding, or when someone calls me super excited that their bad breath is gone. But the absolute best reward for me is to see patients who were scared of seeing the dentist come back to see me without any fear! That really warms up my heart!

What do you like to do when not working on patients' teeth?

I love to travel. It opens up my outlook and helps me see things in different ways to respect diversity. I love seeing how people live around the world and makes me respect diversity. I love drawing and crafts. It calms my mind.
I love taking walks with my border collie, Max. He always cheers me up.

What would you like to tell potential patients?

Just come over! Even though people are often nervous about their first visit, it doesn’t have to be stressful. I always tell people that we can do as much as they are ready to do. We can even just talk (and that’s often the case)! Give us a try and you won’t regret it.
